Optional Activities

These activities were available for both symposium participants and their guests.

IPM Tours - Monday, March 26
Choose between one of two local destinations, where Integrated Pest Management practices-and their associated challenges-will be showcased. Both will depart at 1:00pm and return by 5:00pm.

A) Memphis Zoo - The Memphis Zoo is a 70-acre world-class sanctuary just minutes from downtown Memphis. Enjoy group admission to the zoo, a horticultural presentation and walking tour of the facility, followed by some free time before returning to the hotel.

B) Agricenter International/Shelby Farms Park - Board a chartered bus to these adjacent facilities, about 15 miles west of downtown. Agricenter International is a 1000-acre farm research and demonstration facility that since its opening in 1985, has hosted product evaluation and variety performance trials for major row crops in the mid-south. Agricenter staff will discuss several pest management issues (including insects, vertebrates and resistant weeds) and their approaches. Shelby Farms Park is a 2900-acre urban park managed since 2007 by the Shelby Farms Park Conservancy. The bus will stop at several places in the park; participants will hear about several pest management challenges, including invasive plants and aquatic species, as well as livestock parasites.

Memphis Rock 'n' Soul Museum Visit and Reception - Monday, March 26 - 5:00-8:00 PM
The Memphis Rock 'n' Soul Museum is the only Memphis TN museum which tells the complete story of Memphis music history, as researched by the Smithsonian Institution. A Memphis Must See, this Museum tells of the musical pioneers and legends of all racial and socio-economic backgrounds who, for the love of music, overcame obstacles to create the musical sound that changed the world.
The fee includes admission to the museum and a private reception with cash bar and time to spend exploring. Transportation is not included; the museum is about 12 blocks from the Marriott Memphis Hotel and Memphis Cook Convention Center; participants are encouraged to walk, taxi, or use the trolley.

IPM-Related Programs

Gylling Data Management will demonstrate new experiment management features in ARM software during the ARM 9 Overview to be held on 3/26/2012 in Convention Center room L8 from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM. Features include:
- Linking a digital photograph and comment to an assessment value.
- Drag and drop to move Trial Map objects (treatments, plots, replicates, factors).
- Connecting ARM tasks to Outlook calendar.
